What is EEE
Definition of EEE
Electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) is a device that depends on electric currents or electromagnetic fields for its proper functioning. This also includes equipment for generating, transferring, and measuring these currents and fields. EEE is designed to be used with a voltage not exceeding 1000 volts for alternating current and 1500 volts for direct current.
Types of EEE
EEE encompasses a wide range of devices, including household appliances, IT and telecommunications equipment, consumer and lighting tools, and medical and monitoring tools.
Examples of common EEE
Some examples of common EEE include refrigerators, computers, cell phones, televisions, fluorescent lamps, and medical diagnostic devices.
What is the EEE Registry
Purpose of the EEE Register
The EEE Register was established to define the market shares on the basis of which the costs of managing the collection system and the correct treatment of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) are divided among producers.
History and development of the EEE Registry
The EEE Register was created to comply with the European directives on recycling and management of electronic waste. It has undergone various changes over the years to adapt to new regulations and market needs.
Importance of the EEE Registry
The EEE Register is crucial to ensure that producers contribute fairly to the management of e-waste, thereby promoting a sustainable disposal system and reducing environmental impact.
Who must register in the EEE Register
EEE Producers
Manufacturers, defined as natural or legal persons who manufacture and sell electrical and electronic equipment bearing their own brand, must register in the EEE Register.
EEE dealers
Dealers who sell equipment manufactured by other suppliers under their own brand must also register in the EEE Register.
EEE importers
Importers who place electrical and electronic equipment in the national territory for the first time are required to register in the EEE Register.
Export Manufacturers
Manufacturers who manufacture equipment intended exclusively for export are considered producers only for the purposes of the obligation of product design, annual reporting and registration in the EEA Register.
Exclusions from registration in the EEE Register
National Security Equipment
Equipment necessary for the protection of essential national security interests, including weapons and war material intended for specifically military purposes, is excluded from registration.
Equipment that is part of other equipment excluded
Equipment specifically designed and installed as part of another excluded equipment does not require registration in the EEE Registry.
Incandescent lamps
Incandescent lamps are excluded from registration in the EEE Register.
Space equipment
Equipment intended to be sent into space does not need to be registered in the EEE Register.
Large stationary industrial tools
Large stationary industrial tools do not require registration in the EEE Register.
Large fixed installations
Large fixed installations are excluded from membership, unless the equipment is specifically designed to be part of such installations.
Means of transport
Means of transport of people or goods, excluding non-approved two-wheeled electric vehicles, do not have to be registered in the EEE Register.
Non-road mobile machinery
Non-road mobile machinery intended for professional use is excluded from registration in the EEE Register.
R Equipment
Equipment specifically designed for research and development purposes and available only in the context of business-to-business relationships does not require registration in the EEE Register.
Medical devices
Medical devices and in vitro diagnostic medical devices, if there is a risk that they will be infected before the end of their life cycle, are excluded from registration. Active implantable medical devices are also excluded.
How to register in the EEE Register
Telematic procedure
Registration in the EEE Register takes place exclusively electronically by connecting to the official website of the EEE Register.
Activity codes
At the time of registration, the producer must indicate the specific activity code that identifies him as a producer of EEE, if the activity code does not explicitly specify it.
Financing and guarantee schemes
The producer must also indicate the system through which he intends to fulfil the obligations of financing the management of WEEE and the guarantee.
Obligations and Annual Communication
Single Environmental Declaration Model
Producers registered in the EEE Register are required to carry out the annual communication of the equipment placed on the national market in the previous year. This communication is part of the Single Environmental Declaration Model and must be submitted exclusively electronically on the EEE Register website.
Information required in the Annual Communication
Since 2019, manufacturers must indicate information on the quantity of equipment placed on the market, with reference to the different types.

Submission deadlines
The deadline for submitting the Annual Communication on Electrical and Electronic Equipment is 1 July 2024, with reference to 2023 data.
